The Maldives is a series of coral atolls that come up as islands. The Maldives is southwest of India and Sri Lanka. The Maldives lies between 2 degrees north latitude and 6 degrees north latitude. Most of these islands are uninhabited because the islands are not big enough.
The capital of the Maldives is the island of Male. Although Male is not big compare to other islands, this island is one of the most densely populated areas on the globe. The island of Male has been overbuilt in recent years and thus is prone to flooding. Male is where most of the government buildings are.
The Maldives is a major tropical tourist destination.
Maldives was hit by the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
The Maldives is over 98 percent Muslim and is widely unreached by the gospel.
Recently in 2014, Saudi Arabia announced a partnership with the Maldives to build world class mosques on each of habited islands. This would further spread Islam.
The primary language of the Maldives is the Dihevi Language. The Dihevi Language has little to no scripture of the bible. Without scripture, how could they know of their savior Jesus Christ?
-Pray that bible translators are raised up to translate the rest of the Dihevi Language.
-Pray for missionaries to be raised up to reach this country with the gospel.
-Pray that if any secret Christian believers are on the islands that they show unconditional love to their neighbors and share the Good News with them
-Pray that God raises up Christian tourists
